There are addictive qualities to the machine, thankfully during my fairly poor month of January this console has been a great way to pass the evening by, at the same time I feel like I am achieving something. No more soap operas to dumb my brain in the evenings.

Also, since playing Brain Training and enjoying it, my eyes have been peeled open to the amazing offering of games.

The Xbox 360 Console Core System

Choose the package that’s right for you

The Xbox 360 comes in two different packages: the deluxe package includes a wireless controller, 20GB hard drive, and a number of other accessories. Alternatively, the Core System bundle has a standard wired controller and no hard drive.

Which option is right for you will depend largely on your gaming needs–are you a fan of downloadable content? Do controller wires upset the feng shui of your living room? There are pros and cons for each option: for instance, if you do plump for the Core System you will have to buy a separate memory unit if you want to save your games. Likewise, if you opt for the deluxe version you will need a steady supply of AA batteries or a rechargeable battery pack to power the wireless controller.

The Xbox 360 is only backwards compatible with a limited number of original Xbox titles, and a hard drive is required for this function.

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories (PSP)

This game is very, very well made. Liberty City was a good game, but this game is more enjoyable- the Vice City landscape is so vibrant and the storyline is better set out- the missions range from very hard ones to quite easy ones, often in strings. You will meet probably the most insane character in the GTA series, hell any game. They call him Remi, and this game is worth buying for him alone. And wow, some genuine love! Any critisisms are minor- things like walls and fences not appearing till its too late when you’re driving at speed. And you may find the gang war mini games a bit time consuming as you keep counter attacking with rival gangs when you want to focus on the main storyline. Everyone should buy this game, and I just hope that another another GTA will soon be available on this console.

Pokemon Fire Red (GBA)

I first got a Pokemon game, with a Gameboy Colour when i was around 8/9 as a christmas present from my uncle. I remember playing Pokemon Blue all day, Boxing Day and i was thrilled to bits.

God only knows how many years on and here i am playing Pokemon Fire Red, and the memories are flooding back. If you have played the originals this will be very familiar to you, its the same story with the same Pokemon, just with animations and graphics similar to Pokemon Ruby, but don’t let that put you off…

If you played the originals when i did, then this will seem like new to you, the music and Pokemon will make you think back. Yes, i did play the originals but i still find this quite challenging and very compelling and addictive. To be honest, i find myself playing this more than the latest Pokemon versions, diamond and pearl.

If your a Pokemon beginner or a seasoned veteran I’d still highly recommend this very well re-make of a instant phenomenon. There is so much to do on so many levels its accessible by all ages, whether your 8 or 38!!

In a nutshell:
Possibly the least obscure game title ever, this does exactly what it says on the tin with forty-two classics from chess and backgammon, to darts, poker, bridge and solitaire.

The lowdown:
The surprising thing about this game is that nobody’s thought to do it before. The games are split into three varieties of card game and two of board games, plus a selection of “action” games including bowling, darts and billiards. Playing the card games is just as easy as you’d expect with two screens and a stylus, whether it’s Old Maid and Pig or Texas Hold `Em and Bridge. The board games work just as well, with Chinese Checkers, Checkers (i.e. Draughts), Dots and Boxes and more. You’ll also find games like Turncoat (i.e. Othello), “Connect Five”, Ludo, Mahjong and Solitaire. You have got to go to some effort not to find something of interest amongst this selection. Most exciting moment:
The best thing about having so many games is that, except for the ones that are purposefully single player, they can all be played online. If you’re playing against a friend you can even chat using a PictoChat style interface.

Since you ask:
The Japanese and Western versions of the game have several different exclusive games. Japan never got Texas Hold ‘Em, Dots and Boxes, Grid Attack, Ludo, Dominoes, Escape or Mahjong Solitaire but instead have Napoleon, Goninkan, Bozumekuri, Sugoroku, Size Game, Last One and Mini Golf in their version.

I absolutely love this game! You can play any of the unlocked games at you leisure or you can go through ’stamp’ play, where you play each game in turn. I must admit to being addicted to solataire and Mahjong, but love lots of the other games too. I’ve even learnt some games I’d never even heard of!!!

Well worth spending your hard earned pennies on!!!!
